Back in February, I reported that Ali Forney Center founder Carl Siciliano had penned a coming guide. From the Penguin Random House press launch:

Carl Siciliano met Ali Forney—a Black nonbinary teenager overflowing with life—in 1994 whereas working at a daytime middle for homeless youth in New York City. Nineteen years outdated and pushed from house, Forney was the center of the group, identified for infectious laughter, fierce loyalty to pals, and an unshakeable religion of their important human worth.

Then Forney was murdered, a second of horror and devastation that uncovered the brutality that youngsters like Forney confronted in a metropolis marked by gentrification, housing insecurity, and the onslaught of the AIDS epidemic. Motivated by the reminiscence of Forney, Siciliano fought to create a house the place unhoused teenagers might reside and really feel beloved.

In MAKING ROOM Siciliano shares what he realized from Forney and hundreds of different queer teenagers—wounded, courageous, vibrant individuals who lived true to their internal experiences and created household beneath determined circumstances—whereas he helped lead a motion that compelled New York City to take a position thousands and thousands of {dollars} in youngsters who’d been ignored for many years.
