Point Source Audio Unveils EM-i5 Frameless Headset at NAB

Point Source Audio introduces the EM-i5, a frameless headset design that reimagines traditional two-way communication headsets with a universal-fit approach that frees users from rigid headframes. The modular concept supports wireless microphones or intercoms and adapts in-ear monitoring to one or both ears from the same device.

The EM-i5 will debut during the NAB Show 2026 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 19-22 at Booth #C4113.

The EM-i5 is built on Point Source Audio’s patented EMBRACE on-ear mounting platform. The frameless design provides a secure, stable fit that ergonomically conforms to any user, regardless of head size, ear shape, or hairstyle, the company says.

Without the constraint of a headband, the new wearable can be configured as needed for dual-ear isolated monitoring or single-ear situational awareness. A patent-pending signal integration module supports this modularity, enabling adaptation between the two use cases within a single device.

"Our frameless headset design marks a shift in how communication headsets are designed and worn," says James Lamb, president and CEO of Point Source Audio. "By removing the headframe and introducing modular monitoring, we’ve created a solution that is more adaptable, more comfortable, and better aligned with real-world production needs."

Compatibility across professional systems is a key feature of this streamlined wearable. As wireless environments evolve, including the adoption of WMAS, the EM-i5 provides a single wearable interface that supports one or two wireless devices. A series of modular connectors enables the EM-i5 user to seamlessly move between wireless microphones, such as Shure and Sennheiser, and intercom platforms, including Clear-Com and Riedel.

The EM-i5’s interchangeable earphones build on the company’s CM-i3 and CM-i5 in-ear headsets, which won Best of Show in 2017 at NAB. Allowing users to swap the included earphones with preferred custom in-ear monitors ensures a personalized fit and listening experience while maintaining full system compatibility.

The EM-i5 will be showcased at NAB Show 2026 at Booth #C4113, with availability expected in 3Q 2026.
