Miyagi Records will open its doorways on April 14.

A brand new file retailer is ready to open in Chicago this month.

Miyagi Records can be on East Garfield Boulevard within the Washington Park space.

Founded as a web based retailer in 2019, Miyagi Records is “influenced by the hyper-curated, hidden away vinyl retailers of Tokyo”, in accordance with its web site.

Specialising in “obscure and traditional – Soul, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Rock, Blues, World Music, New Wave / Industrial, Hip-Hop, Disco, House LP, 12inch single, & 45rpm codecs,” Miyagi Records is a member of Theaster Gates’ Rebuild Foundation’s Creative Entrepreneurship program.

The Scottish report retailer, owned by Keith Ingram, opened its first retailer in Dundee again in 2015 with an Edinburgh location shortly following in 2017. Assai has developed a repute for its wide selection of genres and in-store occasions akin to dwell performances, signings and artist Q&As.

Munich file retailer Public Possession is about to shut

The file retailer and label is leaving Klenzestrasse after greater than a decade.

Public Possession, the Munich-based file retailer, is about to shut by the tip of March.

In an announcement, Public Possession defined that the closure is due to a “change of landlord” who has “pressured [them] out of the constructing”. Despite the closure, they indicated plans for the longer term, signing off  with “all this isn’t the tip, only a new starting!”.

The retailer, based by Valentino Betz and Marvin Schuhmann, opened in Klenzestrasse in 2013. The similar 12 months, Public Possession launched a label that has since launched music from DJ Chrysalis, Samo DJ and extra.

A new record shop is coming to London

The opening will be celebrated with a launch party on February 11.

Steak Records is set to open in Peckham’s Holdrons Arcade this weekend on February 11.

Curated by Astral Black and Scenic Route’s Jon Phonics, the shop will stock a selection of secondhand records, spanning ’90s house, techno, library, prog-rock, hip-hop, jazz, boogie and soul.

Alongside pre-owned vinyl, Steak Records will also house releases from local labels such as Eglo, Tiff’s Joints, Group Bracil, First Word and more.

A special launch event will take place on opening day at Holdrons Arcade in Peckham between 1-5pm with DJ sets by Footshooter, Poison Zcora, DJ Gilla, Bryce’s Brother, Jon Phonics and special guests from Rinse FM and NTS.

Pick up some gems at Manchester’s newest record store.

Haunted Dancehall, a new record store, has opened on Pollard Street East in Manchester.

The store is open from 11am to 8pm on Tuesday to Friday and from 2 to 8pm on Saturdays. Named after The Sabres Of Paradise’s 1994 album, Haunted Dancehall sells both new and used vinyl.

Dark Entries is opening a record store in San Francisco

The store kicks off with a launch party on December 10.

Dark Entries Records is set to open a brick-and-mortar store in San Francisco on December 10.

Located at 910 Larkin Street, San Francisco, the store will host a special launch event on opening day with DJ sets by Carlos Souffront, Topazu and Jeremy Castillo from 6-9pm.

Founded in 2009 by Josh Cheon, Dark Entries’ aim is to release out-of-print and unreleased underground music and contemporary bands. Since then, the label has put out 100 releases from Severed Heads, Crash Course In Science, Patrick Cowley and more.

Rubber Ducky Records is a new record store on a canal boat

Specialising in pre-owned electronic records, the store is open by appointment.

A record store has opened up in a canal boat on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Rubber Ducky Records boasts a collection of 2000 pre-owned electronic records. It also has a cafe and a radio show onboard.

Currently anchored at Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, the store is open for crate diggers by appointment.

Rubber Ducky Records owner, Myles Greenwood, has plans to bring the boat around the UK, so keep an eye out for the store floating to a canal near you.
