A Golden Ear award sometimes doesn’t quite express the wonder and awe I experienced while reviewing a product. My review intentionally omitted any direct listening notes about specific reference recordings because my time with the Alexx V left me feeling an intense obligation to write a review that was special, that rendered a sense of entertainment and engagement in line with what the Alexx V represents. Considering the price point, size, and physical prowess of the speaker, it is blessed with the luxury of minimal restrictions in design, parts, and fabrication. It stands 63″ tall and weighs 500 pounds per side, utilizes five drivers, and is finished in a technicolor dream coat of Wilson’s newest state-of-the-art paint. Proper setup (many hours of setup) required correct measurements, meticulous placement, and precise adjustment of the four separate cabinets to deliver sound waves of perfectly time-aligned audio sorcery. The music simply flows in natural tonal layers of textural complexity and grace with a sense of ease and effortlessness akin to waves upon an ocean shore—such power, yet such serenity. The Alexx V delves deeper into the soul of the music than any speaker I have had in my room. Yes, a Golden Ear is nice. But I would suggest an Unobtainium, Adamantium, or Vibranium Ear award for the Alexx V. If required, however, to adhere to the current limitations of our physical world, I would settle for a Diamond-Studded Platinum Ear award. They were that good, and they still are. The review pair is my new reference.
