Valdovinos hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina and has built his profile as a resident on leading digital station Frisky, where he hosts Kermesse Sessions. He also runs a label alongside Facundo Mohrr named Kermesse Music which has seen several tracks as solo productions, remixes, and of course alongside production partner Facundo. Valdovinos recently marked the release of his first EP on Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream with ‘Grizzly’ which is a beautiful 4 tracker. Valdovinos has also signed works to Balance, Akbal, Kindisch, and TRYBESof so expect nothing more than big things for this man over the coming months. We caught up with Valdovinos to talk about some of his favourite ever records over the years…
“I started buying records when I was 15 years old. I lived in La Plata, a city near Buenos Aires. I remember that I used to take the bus from my city to a record store in Buenos Aires. Once there I chose a lot of discs to listen to, then I choose the best 10 and then the best three. At that time I didn’t have much money, but when I grew up I started to buy some records at Disc Fair and during my trips.”
These are six of his favourite records in his collection…
Guy Gerber – This Is Balagan [Cocoon Recordings]
With this record, I discovered Guy Gerber, one of my favourite producers. A great psychedelic piece from Sven Väth’s label… perfect for the dancefloor.
Kate Simko – Go On Then Remix EP [Leftroom]
Kate Simko, Ian Pooley, Franck Roger and Blond:ish. All in the same EP! Four remixes of Kate Simko “Go On Then”, with two versions by Ian Pooley. To be honest, I played the four versions at least once. Blond:ish remix for warm-ups and Ian Pooley versions when I’m playing on the main.
Makossa & Megablast Feat. Cleydys Villalon – Soy Como Soy [International Deejay Gigolo Records]
In my beginning as DJ, I had a strong preference for techno and electroclash sound, and Gigolo was one of my favourite labels back then. Today I prefer other sounds but I still found great melodies and chords on Gigolo Records.
An only vinyl release with DJ Koze and Luciano Remixes. For me DJ Koze remix, almost 13 minutes of a dynamic and hypnotic loop with a great groove and Spanish vocals. I’ve played it innumerable times and it’s never bored me. Without a doubt, I would play it today.
LCD Soundsystem – 45:33 [DFA]
Any place I go, the first thing that I look for it’s a record store. At present, I’m not playing with vinyl so today I only buy records to enjoy in my house. I’m a big fan of LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records. This is a special EP with four original tracks. Fresh soul, funky, synths… James Murphy!
Trentemoller – The Last Resort [Poker Flat]
When I bought this record, I wasn’t sure what I was buying. Some sounds caught my attention and I chose it. When I got back to my house I listened carefully. This album totally opened my head; it was like I was immersed in a movie.
Daft Punk – Homework [Virgin Records and Soma Quality Recordings]
I grew up in the 90s and ‘Homework’ is part of the soundtrack of my life. I listened to the CD at that time for hours. A few years later, a good friend gave me the record, and now it’s one of my treasures. I don’t think I can add anything else that you don’t know about this album.
We would like to thank Valdovinos for his time and for sharing his favourite records, and we hope you enjoyed his fabulous choices. To purchase his latest EP on All Day I Dream click here.
