In 1962, when The Beatles have been elevating the roof at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, Hideo Matsushita based Audio-Technica in a small condo in Japan. His first product, the AT-1 phono cartridge, obtained a heat reception and was shortly adopted by the AT-3 and AT-5 moving-magnet designs. By the Nineteen Seventies, Audio-Technica was the most important producer of phono cartridges on the earth. With the appearance of digital audio and the CD, the agency diversified into headphones and microphones, fearing the upcoming decline of vinyl. While vinyl gross sales did certainly fall, the agency continued producing an array of cartridges to swimsuit all budgets. The resurrection of vinyl from its Nineties nadir has enabled A-T to proceed to innovate and to develop its cartridge-manufacturing operation.
