Benny Audio Odyssey Turntable

So many firms, so little time. The AP group didn’t get to spend as a lot time with all people at High End Munich 2024 as we might have appreciated to, so we’ve been performing some post-show follow-ups to verify we spotlight as many cool firms, their turntables, and different analog gear seen on the present as potential.

One such firm is Benny Audio, based in 2017 and primarily based in Gliwice, Poland. Their new Odyssey turntable, which was a prototype in 2023, was on show on the present and is now formally in manufacturing. Over the weekend, I reached out on to Benny Audio head honcho Tomasz Franielczyk to get extra details about it.

According to Franielczyk, the Odyssey desk “is the results of over seven years of analysis and expertise. It is a turntable constructed from scratch. The principal goal was to create a turntable that might surpass its older brother [the Immersion II] in each facet. The drive system, platter bearing, platters, plinth together with the bottom, and the 14-inch tonearm have been all redesigned from the bottom up.”

The Benny Audio Odyssey desk boasts a triple-layer plinth. The higher platter is 300mm black Delrin (5kg), the mid-platter is 300mm chrome steel (8kg), and the decrease platter is 200mm chrome steel (4kg). The plinth, crafted from sturdy aluminum and polyacetal, types a basis that’s stated to dam undesirable vibrations, with the layer comprised of POM (polyoxymethylene) particularly meant to maintain the bearing and the platters free from any vibration. The Odyssey desk sits on a precision-crafted aluminum base, and it stands on anti-vibration ft with inverted porcelain cups.

The Odyssey’s principal bearing contains a hydrodynamic inverted sleeve, YG8 10mm sintered carbide ball, POM base, and aluminum physique. At its core is a 15mm shaft comprised of hardened metal. Each bearing and shaft is manually polished. The top-fill oil system makes use of a high-viscosity artificial oil, and the corporate recommends oil-refill service each three years.

The drive system is a robust BLDC motor (3-phase, 8-pole, 20W), managed by a Swiss-engineered driver and ruled by Benny Audio’s personal custom-programmed microcontroller. The 14in arm weighs 0.52kg, its efficient mass ranges between 18g and 30g, and it may well accommodate carbon fiber and/or titanium cartridges and headshells. The arm boasts silver monocrystalline wiring direct to the cart.

The Odyssey desk’s dimensions are 400 x 242 x 400mm (w/h/d) and its weight is 59kg (with out tonearm). Other options embody a ULPS DC energy provide with AC enter voltage of 110V or 220V, DC output voltage of 12V (2-wire cable with GX16 plug).

Franielczyk provides that “all Odyssey turntables are custom-made to order” and that “turntable manufacturing takes as much as three months after putting an order.” Furthermore, he tells AP that Benny Audio is “open for cooperation with potential sellers or distributors” exterior of Poland.
