Hey, I’m completely new here and just starting to think about air quality. I didn’t notice any recent threads specifically on this topic, but I suspect more people would be curious about VOCs and their impact on a large music-collection setup.
I’m a DJ and have amassed a sizable vinyl collection over roughly two decades. Think around 38 IKEA Kallax cubes filled with records, mostly stored in one room.
From what I understand, records wrapped in their sleeves don’t off-gas much, and VOC release happens primarily when you remove them and they’re exposed to fresh air. Still, given the sheer volume in my record room, I figure the VOC levels could be quite high—even if most of the time the records are stored closed up.
I’m looking to downsize the collection, but that will take years. Bulk selling tends to fetch only about 10-20 cents on the dollar.
So I’m seeking ways to reduce VOC exposure as much as possible in the meantime. Are there specific air filters I should consider?
